MHAMD's 2018 Legislative Briefing and Reception
National Perspectives on Improving Behavioral Health Outcomes How do changes in leadership and policy at the federal level impact our work as state advocates? That’s the question we will address at MHAMD’s 2018 Legislative Briefing and Reception. Dr. Elinore McCance-Katz was recently appointed as the first Deputy Secretary for Behavioral Health in the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where she oversees the important work of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, a federal agency with a $3.6 billion budget devoted to improving mental health and substance use treatment in the states. Dr. Shelli Avenevoli became Deputy Director at the National Institute of Mental Health earlier this year, where she works to transform the understanding and treatment of mental illness through research, paving the way for prevention, recovery and cure. MHAMD President Jeff Richardson will host a conversation with these distinguished national leaders about their priorities and vision for the future for individuals living with mental health and substance use conditions.
