The practice of mindfulness meditation and conscious control of the breath have been shown to increase self-awareness, help calm the mind and balance emotions, and produce a deeper sense of connection and well-being.  During this introductory presentation, Mira Tessman will lead participants through a practice of basic skills for starting a home practice.  Mira is the Founder and Director of Wellspring Healing Arts (wellspringhealingarts.org) in Lutherville, Maryland.  She is licensed in the state of Maryland as a Clinical Psychotherapist, with a Masters of Arts degree in Clinical Psychology from Loyola College. She has worked in a variety of settings including a psychiatric hospital, a school for children with severe emotional disturbances, community clinics and schools. She was co-founder and co-director of The Heart’s Journey Wellness Center in Towson from 2002-2007.  Mira also teaches yoga and meditation at shelters throughout Baltimore City.
