Kings of Leon: The biggest mainstream southern rock band to come about in recent years is Kings of Leon. The group's unique performances of southern rock in an indie style has brought them success worldwide that has been widely imitated. Despite being around for years, they reached mainstream success with the release of their 2007 album, Because of the Times.

Kings of Leon was formed by brothers Caleb, Nathan, and Jared, along with their cousin Matthew. The three brothers led a nomadic childhood, as their father was a traveling Pentecostal preacher. They would often sleep in a church or the family Oldsmobile and were home-schooled by their mother. After their parents divorced in 1997, the boys were free to indulge in the rock-and-roll that they had been previously denied by their religious upbringing. Only six months later, Nathan and Caleb received a record deal from RCA on the stipulation that they would find more members to form a full band. Younger brother Jared was recruited, despite being only fourteen and not knowing how to play any instruments. The brothers then invited their cousin Matthew for a one-week visit and never let him return home to Mississippi. Nathan took up the drums, Caleb taught himself the guitar, Jared slowly adopted the bass, and Matthew became the guitarist as he was the only member that knew how to play an instrument. Kings of Leon took their name from the brothers' preacher father, who was named Ivan Leon Followill. The band's members then decided to use their middle names as their stage names to keep with the concept.

After a month spent in a basement, working on songs and smoking an ounce of pot, the group had written music for their debut Holy Roller Novocaine EP, which was released in 2003. Despite Jared still not having mastered the bass, the EP was a big success and garnered the group a sizable following. The EP bolstered the popularity of Kings of Leon's debut LP, Youth and Young Manhood, which was released in the UK later that year. While the album made only a little splash in the US, it became a huge success in the UK, reaching #3 in the charts, and in Australia where it went three times platinum. Kings of Leon furthered both their success and their southern rock sound with the release of their 2004 album, Aha Shake Heartbreak. The album once again performed excellently in the UK and Australia, as well as warmed American audiences to the up-and-comers. The album also allowed the Kings of Leon to tour with some of their musical idols, including opening concert dates for Bob Dylan and Pearl Jam.

Kings of Leon's sound became more developed and matured by the release of Because of the Times in 2006. For the album, Kings of Leon polished their rough, garage-rock sound to let their folky, southern sound shine through; a decision that would serve them well from that point on. The album received recognition from a wider audience, but a more mixed reception from critics due to the group's experimentalism. Critics were changing their tunes upon the release of Only by the Night in 2008. The band had fully evolved and the harmonious experiments from the previous album showed on Only by the Night. The album debuted at the top of the UK charts and #4 on the US charts, despite only slight recognition in the states before the album's release. The success was due in part to the popularity of the hit lead single, "Sex on Fire." The album contained other hugely successful singles, including "Use Somebody," "Revelry," and "Notion." Despite the popularity in the US and UK, the album exploded in Australia as it became the continent's best-selling record ever and went platinum nine times. Kings of Leon cleaned up at the Grammy Awards in 2010, as they won for Record of the Year and Best Rock Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocal and Best Rock Song for "Use Somebody."

The group returned to their earlier, heavier sound on their most recent album, Come Around Sundown. While the album has received mixed reviews, positive accolades have been given to Kings of Leon for once again experimenting and innovating with their style.

Jimmy Eat World: Jimmy Eat World emerged at the forefront of the alt-rock emo scene when their third album Bleed American hit store shelves in 2001. Since then, they have been at the top of the charts and the Jimmy Eat World concert schedule is nothing short of epic. Jimmy Eat World tour dates are scheduled nationally with the band promoting their most recent release Chase This Light.

Jimmy Eat World formed in the Phoenix suburb of Mesa, Arizona in 1993 when schoolmates Jim Adkins, Zach Lind, Tom Linton, and Mitch Porter had the brilliant idea of starting a band. Their early sound mirrored that of eighties New York punk but they soon developed an emo-core style as the genre was in its nascent. Jimmy Eat World tour dates were scheduled around the southwest and the band was eventually discovered by a scout for Capitol Records who signed the band. They released their debut Static Prevails to minimal commercial success but were embraced by crowds at their live shows.

They released their sophomore set Clarity in 1998 and were widely cited as bringing attention to emo as a legitimate genre. It featured the single "Lucky Denver Mint", which was used in the Drew Barrymore film Never Been Kissed. Jimmy Eat World broke out big with their third release Bleed American which they produced independently and distributed through Big Wheel Records. The band self-financed the album with funds they earned through touring and working day jobs. The album's single "The Middle" became an international rock and pop hit reaching #5 on the Billboard Hot 100. The album was certified platinum and Jimmy Eat World tour dates were scheduled on a lengthy Bleed America outing that lasted for two years.

They brought in alt-rock guru, Gil Norton, to produce their next album Futures which was released in 2004. The album featured the lead single "Pain" and the subsequent single "Work", both hits on the Modern Rock survey. Jimmy Eat World joined Taking Back Sunday on an extensive US tour before joining Green Day on their American Idiot outing. Jimmy Eat World returned to Arizona to record their sixth album Chase This Light which was released in 2007. They followed this up with their most recent album Invented in 2010 which featured the hit single "My New Theory", which hit #2 on the Modern Rock survey. Jimmy Eat World tour dates are booked internationally in support of this album, and they will be on the road throughout 2011. Additional JImmy Eat World concert dates are scheduled at major festivals such as Reading and Leeds Festival in the UK and Rock Werchter in Belgium. Weezer's first concert performance was on the opening stage for Matrix star Keanu Reeves and his band Dogstar in 1992. They were signed to Geffen Records in 1993 and headed to the studio with The Cars frontman, Ric Ocasek, to produce their self-titled debut album dubbed the "Blue Album". The lead-off single "Undone-The Sweater Song" was an immediate top ten hit on modern rock radio. It was with their second single "Buddy Holly" and its iconic video that the band reached cult status. The single won Weezer the Breakthrough Video Award and Best Alternative Music Video at the MTV Video Music Awards. The album featured one more hit single, "Say It Ain't So", and was certified triple-Platinum and remains their highest selling album to-date.

In the aftermath of the success, Weezer tour dates were scheduled internationally to play to their burgeoning audience. The band returned to the studio in 1994 and released their sophomore album Pinkerton in 1996. While the single "El Scorcho" was a hit on radio, the album was not properly promoted due to a legal issue and subsequently suffered through slow initial sales. Weezer tour dates were scheduled to promote the album before a hiatus beginning in 1997. During this time, Rivers attended Harvard and focused his efforts towards his song-writing. The band reunited in 2000 for a spot on the Fuji Festival in Japan which reinvigorated their appetite for recording. Weezer tour dates were scheduled on the 2000 Warped Tour and they recorded their album Weezer.

The self-titled third album, popularly known as The Green Album, was released in 2000 and brought Weezer back to mainstream acclaim. The initial singles "Hash Pipe" and "Island in the Sun" were MTV video hits and radio smashes. They quickly returned with Maladroit in 2002 which featured a heavier more serious sound. Weezer concert dates were booked on the Maladroit Enlightenment Tour and they recorded in-between shows. They headed back into the recording studio with famed producer Rick Rubin to craft Make Believe. the album was released in 2005 and featured their biggest hit to-date, "Beverly HIlls", which reached #1 on the Modern Rock Songs chart. The Weezer concert schedule included the Make Believe Tour and a Japan-wide concert series in 2005.

More recently, Weezer cut their sixth album with Rick Rubin, which was colloquially known as the The Red Album. The disc featured their second #1 hit, "Porks and Beans", which won a Grammy for Best Short Form Music Video. Weezer tour dates were scheduled alongside Blink 182 for a nation-wide outing and they wrote songs for their upcoming album, Radittude, which was released in 2010. Weezer's concert schedule included headlining stints at the Bamboozle Festival and Bonnaroo Music and Arts Festival in 2010. Weezer released their latest studio album, Hurley, and a compilation of rarities, Death to False Metal, in 2011 . The Weezer concert schedule 2011 will have the rockers traversing the globe. The band has been rockin' their quirky rock anthems for nearly two decades. Don't miss a date on the Weezer concert schedule 2011. Fitz and The Tantrums: Fitz and The Tantrums is bringing the Motown sound back to modern music. While Fitz and The Tantrums haven't had an all-star concert schedule yet, their fresh sound is garnering attention on tour dates in 2011. The band's frontman, Michael Fitzpatrick, has described his music as "soul-influenced indie pop" and also reiterated that the sound is similar to Motown Records, but that he's not trying to recreate it. In no way is a resemblance to Motown music a bad thing; in fact, it's one of the many reasons that Fitz and The Tantrums have struck a pleasing chord with fans and critics alike. The band's popular sound is also the reason Fitz and The Tantrums have had a full concert schedule since the release of their newest album Pickin' Up The Pieces, including upcoming tour dates for 2011. The remaining concert schedule for 2011 includes tour dates in North America, and even a stop off in Australia.

Michael Fitzpatrick - or Fitz - had been working as a singer and songwriter in Los Angeles for a few years, without any major claim to fame. One fateful day, Fitz received a call from his ex-girlfriend, whose neighbor had to move out quickly and was selling most of his things, including an old church organ. After hiring and pleading a group of people to move it into his living room, Fitz sat down at the organ and was struck by wave after wave of inspiration. "Breakin' The Chains of Love" was the song that first flowed from the organ and became the single off of his first EP, Songs For a Break Up, Vol. 1. While he liked the electric guitar on the track, Fitz felt it was the saxophone that shone through brightest, giving him the idea to create songs without any guitar at all (excluding a funky bass). Before recording, Fitz had to find some Tantrums; he recruited the sultry voice of Noelle Scaggs (former singer for The Rebirth, whom he produced), drummer John Wicks, keyboardist Jeremy Ruzumna (former musical director for Macy Gray), saxophonist James King (who has backed De La Soul), and bassist Joseph Karnes. He recorded all the songs for the EP in his living room in 2009, and the album slowly began to spread to the east coast. It made its way to New York, where the EP found its way into the hands of a tattoo artist who was inking Maroon 5 frontman Adam Levine. The artist urged Levine to listen to the album and the singer was immediately impressed, personally inviting Fitz and The Tantrums to open for Maroon 5 on their 2009 tour.

Fitz and The Tantrums was signed to Dangerbird Records in 2010 and shortly after released their first full-length album, Pickin' Up The Pieces. The album has become a huge success, including the single "MoneyGrabber," and brought Fitz and his Tantrums a fair amount of fame and headlining tour dates in 2011. The group is about to experience even more fame this summer as they fill up their concert schedule with even more tour dates in 2011, this time with up-and-comer April Smith and the Great Picture Show. The tour is underway on the west coast of the US and will head to the east coast on April 9. Fitz and the Tantrums will make their way down the east coast and loop through the south until April 23, when they'll head to Europe to play shows in Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels, and London in early May. On May 24, Fitz and the Tantrums will return to the US to play the Northwest and Canada before traveling to Australia for tour dates on July 27. The last scheduled 2011 tour date for Fitz and The Tantrums is set for Austin, TX on September 17, with the possibility of an extended concert schedule in the near future. Those interested in seeing Fitz and the Tantrums should check them out on their current concert schedule, as the next time they tour, you might have to pay a lot more for a ticket after they hit the big time.
